Second Friday art sale, Oct. 13

By Josh Davis, Associate Editor (Oct. 12, 2017)

The Berlin Arts and Entertainment Committee will have an art sale and fundraiser in conjunction with the monthly 2nd Friday art stroll this week. Paintings, prints and sculptures will be among the works on display at the Berlin Welcome Center on 14 South Main Street. The cost for each piece is $25. “These are all local artists who have donated pieces of their own work for the benefit of Arts and Entertainment,” committee member Robin Tomaselli said. “You can go in and it’s pretty much an honor system. There’s a donation bucket there and the suggested donation is $25. Once you make that suggested donation, then you can pick whichever art piece you like. “All of those funds raised will go back to help [the committee] do great stuff in the community,” she added. “It is a real eclectic mix of art work and a great way to do some shopping and help arts and entertainment at the same time.” Tomaselli said a separate fundraiser is planned for November at Burley Oak Brewing Company, to raise money to place a second bike rack near House by Salvaged and Go Organic Grocer on Artisan’s Way. A second Artists Giving Back event is also planned for Tuesday, Nov. 28. During the inaugural event last year, dozens of volunteers provided hundreds of meals at St. Paul United Methodist Church on Flower Street. “We already have restaurants onboard in addition to key members of the community,” Tomaselli said. “Worcester Youth and Family has already reached out to us regarding incorporating servers … kids who live here … and really want to help give something back.” Children from Worcester Youth helped during the Artists Giving Back event last year. “It was just epic for young kids to see people of all different races and ages and socio-economic levels working together for the common good – to do nothing other than serve the community,” Tomaselli said. “I think the people at St. Paul’s Church … are really excited about it too. That is definitely going to happen again.” Tomaselli said the committee is looking for additional restaurants and commercial operations to donate food items. The Arts and Entertainment Committee will unveil the third panel of a public art mural outside the Berlin Welcome Center during the November 2nd Friday art stroll, Nov. 10. “There’s a lot going on for Arts and Entertainment,” Tomaselli said. “We’ll also have home tours coming up in the beginning of December and we’ll have a huge art show at the Globe in January. We’re marching forward.” Berlin’s 2nd Friday festivities will feature more than a dozen art displays in shops throughout the downtown area, along with sales and specials in restaurants from 5-8 p.m. For more information, visit www.artsinberlin.org.
