Pocomoke dominates Stephen Decatur

BERLIN – Even with the return of senior Leigh Anne Flounlacker, back from a concussion, Stephen Decatur could not handle the offensive firepower of Pocomoke on Tuesday afternoon. The Warriors more than doubled the score in the second half to rout the Seahawks 59-27.

“I was really nervous at first when I got back out there,” said Flounlacker, who scored eight points for the Seahawks. “I was a little rusty and it took some time to get back into the swing of things, but I feel good and I’m excited for our next game.”

The Seahawks, which saw their Christmas break tournament canceled due to a snow storm and have not played since Dec. 21, came out a little rusty and were behind 32-13 at half time. In the third quarter Pocomoke extended the lead with an 11-0 run and led 49-21 going into the fourth.

“Even though we lost this was one of the best games we have played all year as far as moving the ball on offense and trying to get the ball inside,” SDHS coach Amy Fenzel-Mergott said.

“It’s wonderful to have Leigh Anne back. Her hustle and intensity raises the bar for everyone on the team.”
