(May 24, 2018) Take it from the Ocean Pines Clubs Committee — things have improved significantly at the community yacht club.

Committee member Gary Miller said discussion during a meeting last Thursday centered on the successful overhaul of the facility by the Matt Ortt Companies.

Most of the group attended a soft opening at the club two days earlier.

“Everybody was very impressed, not just with the way everything looked, but the service was great and the food was fantastic,” he said.

It was so good that, after adjourning, most of the committee members went straight to the club for a drink.

“The place was packed,” Miller said. “Both bars were packed and the dining room filled up quickly. Things are going good right now.”

Also during the meeting, Miller said the committee met with General Manager John Bailey to hear details on the Friday reopening of the beach club, which is now under Matt Ortt Companies management as well.

Additionally, he said Bailey reported on a request for proposals for renovations at the country club, expected to release after Labor Day.

“They’re planning on getting something done at a cheap price during the offseason, rather than trying to get things done before the summer starts,” Miller said.

“It was a relatively short meeting, and everybody was basically just talking about how great Matt Ortt’s company is,” he added.
