Pines breakfast with Santa set for Saturday

By Greg Ellison

(Dec. 2, 2021) Children can confirm Christmas gift requests during Ocean Pines annual “Breakfast with Santa” on Saturday from 8-11 a.m. in the Assateague Room at the community center.

Recreation Supervisor Katie Goetzinger said in addition to providing kids facetime with St. Nick, all ages can partake of breakfast selections including pancakes, sausage, juice, milk, coffee, pastries and fruit.

Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines-Ocean City members will be handling food production.

“We’re excited Kiwanis is helping us in the kitchen,” she said.

Breakfast prices are $5 for ages 4-10, $7 for ages 11 and up, with children 3 years of age and under eating for free.

Goetzinger said Santa Claus is slated to arrive at 8:30 a.m. festooned in red and white and ready to account for who’s been naughty or nice.

For a $5 donation to support Ocean Pines Recreation and Parks programs, Santa will pose for pictures with kids.

In the spirit of giving, guests are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy or non-perishable food item for area families in need.

After canceling the Santa breakfast last year because of covid-19, organizers are anticipating a return to the sizeable crowds that attend the event in previous years.

“We’re hoping for a big turnout,” she said.

On other Yuletide fronts, the initial deadline to register for the annual “Light Up the Pines” outdoor decorating program is Friday.

Choptank Electric Cooperative is again sponsoring the community campaign to spread watts of Christmas joy.

An online map of participating homes may be viewed at google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1uznS6ymxVtFBOKH2utHslf-HLm27ds-b&usp=sharing.

Participating homes will be entered into a drawing to win one of three $50 bill credits donated by Choptank. Also, the first 25 registered participants will receive a small goody bag courtesy of Choptank.

Households wanting to participate should submit their names, address and phone number via email to info@oceanpines.org or call 410-641-7717 ext. 3014.
