Philip Beck Loechel

OCEAN PINES — Philip Beck Loechel, 89, died on June 20, at the Berlin Rehab and Nursing Home. He is the son of the late Henry and Francis Loechel.

Loechel was born in Hagerstown on March 21, 1922 and moved to Baltimore at age two.  He served in the Army in WWII for three years in the Pacific. After the war he attended the University of Maryland. He then worked for Westinghouse for 36 years before retiring in 1984 and moving to Ocean Pines. Loechel has been an Ocean Pines resident for 27 years.

Loechel was a 32nd degree Mason, member of Patmos Lodge number 70 in Ellicott City, and Evergreen Lodge in Berlin. He belongs to the Ocean City Shriners Club, Ambassadors of Boumi Temple, the Scottish Rite, and American Legion Post 0166 of Ocean City. He was a past member of the Scimeter Club of Boumi Temple, Eastern Shore Shriners Club, Ocean City Power Squadron, Ocean Pines Boat Club and Kiwanis Club of Ocean Pines.

Loechel is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Eleanor S. Loechel; son Mark Loechel and his wife Christine; daughter Patricia Loechel; grandchildren Hilary and Alexander Loechel and brother in law Edward Stonesifer and his wife Dorothy. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Loechel.

 A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 30 at the Community Church of Ocean Pines. Friends may call one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, 5050 King Ave., Baltimore, MD 21237. Arrangements are in the care of the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.
