Naviance great for student goal setting

It’s an educational innovation that will really be of help to Worcester County Public School students.
The program is called “Naviance,” and it’s a combination of the words “navigation” and “guidance.”
It uses four components, including college and career planning, preparing for success, determining which courses to take and using e-documents when applying to college to help students make informed decisions. It will also help students identify their specific talents and interests, so that they might be more focused in high school.
Naviance also brings the idea of building a student’s academic resume as the student moves through his or her academic career so there isn’t this mad dash weeks prior to graduation to remember the community service projects, clubs, sports or academic achievements gained in school.
This year’s Worcester County seniors have Naviance to help identify colleges they want to attend, submit parts of college applications and even seek out scholarship opportunities.
The program, though, starts in sixth grade, getting students already thinking about what colleges and jobs they might like. It brings the concept that thinking about life after high school even for a middle-school student is normal and important. Worcester County educators have recognized a great tool for students to have a multi-year structured route to follow towards post-high school success.
It is a great concept and that shows how the county is absolutely thinking “out of the box when it comes to the futures of our children. We applaud Naviance. It’s right for our children.
