Boardwalk bike concerns aired

Editor,

As residents of Berlin, Maryland, we enjoy spending time on Ocean City’s Boardwalk. However, we believe there is a safety issue that deserves your attention.

Bicycles and other forms of “foot-operated” transportation often operate along the Boardwalk and their operators often have little regard for pedestrian safety—with no warning when they are approaching.

I believe a law should be passed in Ocean City that requires all conveyances operated on the Boardwalk to be equipped with a bell, horn or other warning device.

There should be fines on owners of these devices who fail to equip them with warning devices. There also should be fines on operators who fail to use these devices when approaching pedestrians. Thank you for your kind attention in this matter.
