Guest bartender fundraiser will include board members

(Sept. 27, 2018) Members of the Ocean Pines Board of Directors will have a chance to meet the public and pour drinks at the community yacht club during a fundraiser for Atlantic General Hospital planned for Friday, Nov. 2.

Event organizer Gary Miller said during a clubs advisory committee meeting last Thursday that several directors would serve as guest bartenders.

“It will be a fundraiser for Atlantic General Hospital’s Penguin Swim, but the idea was to have an event where the residents of Ocean Pines could interact with board members in a friendly atmosphere,” Miller said. “A lot of people don’t go to the board meetings and probably don’t even know who anybody is, so this would be an opportunity to meet people and talk about issues – if they want to.

“There’s not going to be any formal statements by bartenders. This is going to be strictly a fun evening,” he added.

Miller said raffles held during the event would raise money for the Penguin Swim, an annual New Year’s Day event that supports Atlantic General Hospital.

According to the Penguin Swim website, the event is one of the largest fundraisers “in support of Atlantic General Hospital’s mission to create a coordinated care delivery system that will provide access to quality care, personalized service and education to improve individual and community health.”

Miller said Monday he had received commitments from five of the seven board members. The fundraiser is scheduled from 6-9 p.m.
