Grand opening of OP Yacht Club slated for June 8

OCEAN PINES–The Cove, the name of the first-floor of the new yacht club, is expected to open Memorial Day weekend and its grand opening is scheduled for June 8.
In addition to the traditional ribbon cutting, the grand opening will include all-day music, food and tours of the new facility, General Manager Bob Thompson told the board of directors at an April 23 meeting.
Use of the yacht club needs to be expanded, so Thompson said he wanted to “rebrand the first floor.” He wants people to know it is open to the general public.
To come up with a new name, a contest was held and eight people used “Cove” as part of their entry.
The new building was repositioned with a view that is a “straight shot to Ocean City,” Thompson said.
New executive chef Timothy Ulrich, who was most recently in charge of food and beverage operations at Belle Haven Country Club in Alexandria, Va., has relocated and has been working on a new menu.
Entertainment has been booked and furniture for the yacht club pool was ordered and should be in place shortly. Thompson said he and Colby Phillips, the new director of the Aquatics Department, measured the area around the pool again that morning to assure the furniture would fit appropriately. They measured it for each piece of furniture, he said.
The selected chaise lounges will have straps in a cross pattern, instead of the previous horizontal pattern.
“They won’t sag as much,” Thompson said. “They disperse weight more evenly.”
