BERLIN
– After a tough loss to North Caroline in the Bayside Conference championship match last week, Stephen Decatur took the court against Reservoir in the 3A East Region quarterfinals on Monday evening.

Unfortunately for the Seahawks, they suffered another tough loss (25-23, 25-18, 25-9) on their home court, which ended a terrific season.

“It’s been a good season and good run for us. I’m very proud of them,” said SDHS coach Bertha Ortiz. “They shouldn’t hold their heads down.”

Decatur
played at its best in the first set coming back to tie the game at 20 and then pull within 22-23 before losing the next two points. In the second set

Decatur
kept pace with Reservoir until after a 16 tie when the visitors went on a 7-0 streak to pull away.

“In the first two games I thought the girls came out fired up,” Ortiz said. “They played their game. The first game could have been anyone’s ball game.”

In the third set

Decatur
committed several errors and grew frustrated as Reservoir opened up a 10 point lead en route to an easy win. “In the third game they started making passing mistakes and they couldn’t get it together and they started thinking about the last two plays instead of shaking it off,” Ortiz said.
