‘C’ resolution overhauls held up by apparent wording flaw

The Ocean Pines Bylaws and Resolutions Committee last Friday discuss several “C” Resolution overhauls recently withdrawn from board consideration.

(May 10, 2018) For those wondering why review of several “C” resolutions was abruptly pulled from the last Ocean Pines Association April 28 board meeting, members of the bylaws and resolutions committee last Friday said it was because they discovered a minor flaw with some of the wording.

On the agenda during the April meeting were first readings for updates to Resolution C-01 (committee general), C-03 (budget and finance advisory committee), C-05 (clubs advisory committee), C-6 (communications advisory committee), C-07 (strategic planning committee), and C-07 (elections committee).

Committee member Jeff Knepper referred to the issue as an “oops of updating” and committee member Jim Trummel explained.

According to Trummel, when Ocean Pines’ charter was last updated, the first article in the document was deleted and others were renumbered as a result.

Also, Trummel said, a provision in Article 3 was moved to Article 7.

“As a result of that, you have all of these ‘C’ resolutions … that are affected because they reference a specific article that is no longer the same number,” he said.

Committee Chairman Marty Clarke added, “we could go back and scratch our heads, find out what the actual article is and get it all straight, and then six weeks later they redo the charter and we’re right back in a sinking boat.”

Instead, Clarke said references would be made more generic. He volunteered to update the documents and forward them to Director Ted Moroney, the committee liaison to the board, for consideration during an upcoming meeting.
