Berlin seeking potential new contractors for town cleanup

By Morgan Pilz, Staff Writer

(March 5, 2020) Berlin Town Administrator Jeff Fleetwood and other town officials are considering finding a new company to handle the cleaning of the town’s facilities.

Fleetwood said that the town would be issuing a request for pricing proposals from companies that could handle the town’s housekeeping services.

“[This] is for all the town-owned buildings such as Town Hall, the welcome center, the planning and zoning building, public works, the water resources area and the police station for the actual housekeeping cleaning,” Fleetwood said.

“We currently have contracts for our cleaning,” he continued. “It’s been literally over three years since we started using a contractor to do our cleaning. So, I think it’s time to get new prices and see if we can do something that’s a little bit more competitive.”

According to Fleetwood, the cost can be as much as $50,000 for general cleaning, which includes cleaning the public restrooms as well as all the other town facilities. In addition, these costs will include providing paper products, toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags and other supplies.

“What I like to do with all the contracts is every three years or so as to rebid that, because you need to find out if you’re getting a good value for the services that you’re getting,” Fleetwood said.

Fleetwood expects to see bids for the work by the end of the month.
