‘Earthy theme’ for Friday art stroll in downtown Berlin

BERLIN– An “earthy” theme ties together several of the participating artists and vendors during this month’s art stroll.
The 2nd Friday runs on May 9 from 5-8 p.m. in downtown Berlin and features live entertainment and extended hours by area shops.

More than a dozen vendors and performers will also have tables in the downtown area.
“Our vendors this month have things like homemade dog treats, sea glass jewelry, there’s a guitarist – the vendors are across the board, so it’s a good mix,” said organizer Heather Layton.
“I think there’s a lot of local, kind of earthy art featured this month, whether it be black and white photography, local painters, handmade wooden boxes or handmade fabrics,” Layton continued. “I think it’s a good kick start to summer with two drum circles happening. It’s that time of year when everyone is getting back to basics and starting to head outside.”
Next month 2nd Friday will team up with 4H and the University of Maryland to host a STEM-themed event. Volunteers will help kids work on projects combining science and art from 3-6 p.m.
“We want everyone to gain an appreciation for local artists – see what’s out there and encourage them to explore the shops,” said Main Street Coordinator Megan Houston. “The shops are open a little bit later and we want people to enjoy themselves.”
