Second annual arts race, Saturday

(May 19, 2016) The Worcester County Arts Council will hold its second annual 5K Race/Walk for the Arts on Saturday, May 21 in downtown Berlin.
Designed to raise awareness for the arts, the event charges a registration fee of $25 in advance or $30 on the day of the event. The price includes a one-year membership to the arts council.
“Last year was the first time we ran this, and it was a really awesome event,” Executive Director Anna Mullis said. “We had wonderful participation. People came out with families and children, and the weather cooperated. We’re hoping the weather will be good this Saturday as well.”
Mullis said the council had already registered a number of runners, but was hoping to pick up even more participants on the day of the event.
Registration runs from 7-7:45 a.m., with the event itself spanning from 8-11 a.m.
The route is the same as the previous year, starting at the arts council building on 6 Jefferson Street, looping around the athletic fields at Worcester Preparatory School and heading back.
An “after race party,” which will include pizza, snacks, drinks and prizes for participants, will be held upon completion of the race.
“We’re hoping to increase membership and raise money for the arts council,” Mullis said. “The funds that we raise will support community programs such as grants and scholarships, and programs for children. It’s a great time of the year to get out there and be artists and stay healthy, and at the same time support the arts.”
