Rev. Paulson new leader of Bethany United Methodist

BERLIN–The appointment of the Reverend Connie Paulson to Bethany United Methodist Church in Berlin, was shared by Bishop Peggy Johnson during the June session of the Peninsula and Delaware Conference Annual Conference, held at the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore.
The Rev. Paulson brings many gifts in ministry to Bethany Church, including worship leader and preaching, pastoral care, visitation, teacher and small group facilitation. As a visionary leader, she has both mentored small groups and fostered church growth at all of her appointments, is a trained Disciple Bible Study teacher and trained Stephen Leader, has ministered to those in senior care facilities, and was a supervising pastor for Wesley Seminary’s Practice in Ministry and Mission.
The Rev. Paulson asserts that reaching the un-churched is the greatest task to which the church should address itself approaching 2015. In the coming year, the congregation will build on its strengths that include joyful worship, commitment to missions, lay leadership, and radical hospitality and inclusiveness (“Love grows here” is its motto).
When asked to summarize her vision for ministry, Pastor Paulson said, “I believe that our worship and all ministry is our grateful response to the blessings God provides to us.  I wholeheartedly affirm John Wesley’s mandate, ‘The world is our parish.’  Therefore, I am energized when God called me to work collaboratively with a faithful community, such as Bethany Church, to fulfill that outreach and ministry.”
For 25 years, Paulson has been ordained to serve churches in Hyattsville, Galesville, and Rockville, Md., as well as in Washington, D.C.  She completed undergraduate work in Early Childhood Education at the University of Maryland and a Master of Divinity at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C.  Also, except for her thesis, she has earned all credits toward her Doctorate in Ministry, which focused on the ministry of children.
Paulson lives in Ocean Pines and has been married to Wesley Paulson for 20 years. Wesley is employed as executive director at Clear Space Theatre in Rehoboth Beach.
The Paulsons have five adult children and 10 grandchildren, ages 7-21. Connie’s interests include reading, traveling, walking, doing Zumba, riding the waves at the beach, watching sports and laughing.
