Pocomoke to host monthly 4th Friday art stroll this week

(April 21, 2016) The upcoming 4th Friday Art Stroll in Pocomoke will serve as a backdrop to honor both the Pocomoke High School Basketball and Field Hockey teams for their state championship wins.
“We want everyone to wear their Pocomoke Warriors gear or blue and gold to show support for our teams,” Pocomoke City Downtown Project Coordinator Karah Lacey said. “We’ll be honoring them at 5:30.”
For the rest of the time between 5 and 8 p.m., the monthly art stroll will follow the same basic structure as it has for the past three years. Downtown shops will be open late, artists and vendors will be exhibiting their wares, and games, music and fun will fill the air.
Along with free attendance to the event and the local museums, including the Delmarva Discovery Center, the Costen Museum and the Sturgis One Room Schoolhouse, the streets will be lined with paintings, photos, crafts, jewelry and sculpture — all available for purchase.
“We’re opening it up to some more vendors — I’ve always been of the opinion that the more the merrier,” Lacey said.
What Lacey describes as “flea market” or “yard sale” type vendors are still verboten, but certain kinds of resellers, such as cosmetics and handbags, are allowed. “There’s just so much,” Lacey said. “We do try to mainly focus on artists.”
Paintings, photography, home décor, handmade soaps and body lotions will all be on display and on sale during the event.
“Jewelry is probably the most popular. It’s a great chance for a unique, handcrafted piece,” she said.
Musicians Alex and Shilo will perform.
Expect between 20 and 35 vendors, Lacey said, and a couple of hundred fellow browsers. More may be possible, as this is the inaugural 4th Friday for Pocomoke City this year. The series stops in September.
“The trend is starting to pick up. I talked with the organizers of the Berlin and Salisbury events, and they said the most important thing is to persevere. It was very encouraging,” Lacey said.
Hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, drinks and snow cones will be available for purchase.
