Octoberfest brings beer, food, music to downtown Berlin

(Oct. 15, 2015) Octoberfest will return to downtown Berlin this weekend with a full day of entertainment planned around the theme of the classic German folk festival.
This year’s event, to be held Saturday from noon to 6 p.m., will include several food vendors and live music from Baltimore classic rock band, Vintage Hi-Fi, at 2 p.m.
Ocean 98 will host the event, with additional polka music starting at noon.
Children’s activities include a giant pirate slide, pumpkin painting and scarecrow making.
For adults, the hobby horse steeplechase race, similar in tone to the bathtub and high heel races, will run down Broad Street from 1-2 p.m., while an apple pie-baking contest will give competitors the opportunity to win a cash prize of $100. Pies must be dropped off in front of the Atlantic Hotel by 11:30 a.m. Judging will start at 2 p.m.
Burley Oak Brewing Company will host a beer garden, the Atlantic Hotel’s Drummers Cafe will sell bratwurst and Rosenfeld’s Jewish Delicatessen will offer corned beef, pastrami and knishes.
Additional food vendors will include Crush N Crab, Eastern Shore Kettle Korn and Baked Dessert Cafe.
The Berlin Fall Sidewalk Sale will run in conjunction with Octoberfest, as several shops offer discounts on sidewalk displays.
Free parking in Berlin will be available at Berlin Intermediate School on 309 Franklin Avenue, with a complimentary shuttle sponsored by the Casino at Ocean Downs.
