(May 21, 2015) The Ocean Pines Marina has been awarded Maryland’s Clean Marina certification.
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources’ Clean Marina Initiative recognizes and promotes marinas, boatyards and yacht clubs of any size that meet legal requirements and voluntarily adopt pollution prevention practices.
DNR has certified nearly 25 percent of Maryland’s estimated 600 marinas as Clean Marinas or Clean Marina Partners, and they aim to continue increasing this number moving forward.
Boaters are encouraged to patronize certified Clean Marinas and to adopt clean boating habits. The collective effort of individuals and businesses will improve the quality of Maryland’s waters from Deep Creek Lake, to the Chesapeake Bay, to the coastal bays.
This certification is presented to Maryland Marina facilities that demonstrate a high level of clean environmental achievement through knowledge, practice and active participation of the marina’s staff, customers and subcontractors. Boaters can expect an elevated level of environmental awareness and responsibility when visiting a certified Maryland Clean Marina.
Maryland Clean Marinas act to improve and maintain Maryland’s waterways by reducing and eliminating releases and discharges of harmful pollutants, sediments, nutrients, general refuse and anything else that can damage aquatic environments. Clean Marinas also strive for continuous improvement in daily environmental stewardship practices such as use of oil-absorbent rags to prevent spills at the fuel dock, development of extensive emergency response plans, fish cleaning station with dedicated dumpster to keep fish waste out of marina basin, an area of natural wetlands remains to help filter stormwater and have a portable oil/waste separator on site to filter contaminated bilge water.

By promoting and utilizing environmentally-sound business practices, Ocean Pines Marina is taking actions to reduce pollution and improve water quality in the bay, protect both fish and wildlife habitat and provide continued boating enjoyment for future generations. Ocean Pines Marina is open to the public daily from May through October.
