New Pines Board to meet for first time, pick officers

(Aug. 24, 2017) The new Ocean Pines Association Board of Directors is scheduled to meet for the first time tomorrow (Friday) to select its president, vice president, secretary and treasurer for the year ahead.
It will be the first official meeting since the Aug. 12 annual meeting that saw the election of Doug Parks and Dr. Colette Horn.
Parks had served for one year as an appointed director and Horn, a psychologist, is a political newcomer in the Pines. Both will serve three-year terms and join directors Brett Hill, Tom Herrick, Cheryl Jacobs, Pat Supik and Slobodan Trendic.
The Gazette contacted all seven directors to ask if they had any favorites for the officer roles.
“I have no desire to seek any of the officer positions and if nominated I will respectfully decline. I shared this with [a] few of my colleagues over the past months,” Trendic said, adding he would “support and also welcome our lady colleagues in more prominent officer roles.”
Trendic added that Parks would run the meeting as the acting board president.
Parks was named board vice president last month when Herrick resigned as president and Dave Stevens assumed that role. Stevens’ term officially ended on Aug. 12.
Parks confirmed he was taking on the role of acting president and said he was considering accepting a permanent appointment.
“Speaking for myself, I would be remiss if I didn’t note that I have been asked by board colleagues and OPA membership to consider a leadership position,” he said. “I have had a number of discussions and am in the process of weighing the pros and cons of filling an officer position on the board if nominated.”
No other board members responded as of press time.
The meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. in the Assateague Room of the community center on 235 Ocean Parkway.
