Guards gone, Pines pool to close until Labor Day wknd.

(Aug. 24, 2017) The Swim and Racquet Club pool in Ocean Pines will be closed from Tuesday, Aug. 22 until Thursday, Aug. 31, and reopen during Labor Day weekend.
According to Aquatics Director Colby Phillips, the schedule change was necessary because several lifeguards who were scheduled to watch over the pool returned to school — some earlier than expected.
The pool, on 10 Seabreeze Road, will reopen during the traditionally very busy Labor Day weekend, Saturday, Sept. 2 and Sunday, Sept. 3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and remain open while the Sports Core Pool, on 11144 Cathell Road, will close from Sept. 5-10 for semiannual cleaning.
The Swim and Racquet Club pool will be closed on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 4.
All other Ocean Pines pools will remain open and running on regular schedules.
Phillips joked that she and Aquatics Supervisor Kathleen Cook “begged enough guards to drive back from college” for the holiday weekend.
“The aquatics team strives to bring the community the safest, cleanest and best guest experiences we can when using our pools,” Phillips said. “We understand this is disappointing to some and we are truly sorry for that.
“Please believe we have done and will continue to do everything in our power to try and open any additional days if our staffing numbers should change,” she added. “Please look to our Facebook page or oceanpines.org for these updates. Thank you for your continued support of our aquatics program.”
