Crush n Crab cuts ribbon on former Boomers in Berlin

(July 2, 2015) Crush n Crab, one of Berlin’s newest restaurants, tested the waters last weekend with an unannounced soft opening.
Located at the site once occupied by Boomers, the Eastern Shore-style seafood house also celebrated with a ribbon cutting on Wednesday.
“The soft opening went really well,” Owner John Cookro said on Monday. “Our official opening is July 1, and we’ll probably have a grand opening after we get 30 days under our belt.”
Signs at the restaurant were not in place until late Monday.
“I’ve been really pleased with business with not having a sign on the building given the volume that we had Friday, Saturday and Sunday,” Cookro said. “I think people were really happy with the crabs that we got, and it seems like the chicken is a big hit and the ice cream’s a big hit. We had some late-night people that came up and got ice cream on Sunday night.”
Cookro said breakfast also went over well.
“Generally we wanted to stop breakfast at 11 a.m., that was our hours posted, but on Sunday I think we’re going to extend late because we had a lot of people come after church. Across the board, we were very pleased.”
The restaurant is putting an emphasis on local products, getting its crabs, clams, fish, oysters and mussels locally, as well as ice cream and, potentially, root beer.
Crush n Crab is located at the corner of Route 113 and South Main Street in Berlin. The restaurant is open seven days a week, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 7 a.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday.
