Berlin Chamber yet to designate new exec. director

BERLIN– The Chamber of Commerce’s search for a new executive director could be heating up, as the current director’s tenure comes to an end this month.
Joya Mattie, hired last year, will serve as the Berlin Chamber’s Executive Director until Aug. 29. The Chamber has yet to name a replacement.
“We’re in the process,” said Chamber President Tom Sholtis. “We had the executive board meeting, but we’ve not made any decisions yet. We are working to get the vacancy filled. We’re going through some candidates, and we have numerous people to interview and consider for the position.”
The Chamber has not imposed a deadline to fill the position, and Sholtis indicated someone could briefly fill the role on an interim basis.
Although she is unsure of her next role, Mattie said she would like to continue working with the town in some function.
“I’m not 100 percent sure yet,” she said. “I’ve applied to some jobs and gone on some interviews. I just needed to be able to give them an appropriate two-week notice if it was definitely going to happen. It’s been more like a couple months’ notice.
“I’d love to stay involved,” Mattie continued. “I’m in the area for certain. I’ve decided to settle here and this is where my home is – this is where I’ve decided I’d like to stay. I already planned some stuff this year while working on events to set things up and get ready for next year, so I’m going to help out as much as possible as much as they need me, and of course I do enjoy volunteering for the town and their ambassador stand.”
The Berlin Chamber of Commerce rents an office space in the town’s Visitor’s Center on 14 South Main Street. For more information call 410-641-4775.
