Zumba and Pickleball offered

OCEAN PINES–The Ocean Pines Recreation Department will be offering Zumba and Pickleball this winter and the Ocean City Power Squadron will present a new boating course at the Ocean Pines library.
 

Zumba

The Ocean Pines Recreation Department will present a Family/Friends Zumba class, designed for parents or friends with children ages 5 and up.  This class is 45 minutes long and set to G-rated pop music. It will take place in the gymnasium at the Community Center located at 239 Ocean Parkway. Certified instructors from West Ocean City Fitness will be leading the group.

 
There are two different four-week sessions being offered:
 
Session 1 – Thursdays, Feb. 20 – March 13 from 5:15-6:00 p.m.
Session 2 –Thursdays, March 20- April 10 from 5:15-6:00 p.m.

The cost for this class varies depending on the number of members in each family. Call the Community Center at 410-641-7052 for registration and payment details. Early registration is recommended.  
 

Pickleball

Ocean Pines is offering a Pickleball Clinic on Sundays from 2-3 p.m. This clinic is a family friendly beginner’s course.  All equipment is provided at no additional charge.
There are two sessions to choose from.

 
The first clinic begins Feb. 2 and runs for four weeks.
 
The second clinic begins March 2 and also runs for four weeks.
 
This sport is a cross between ping pong, badminton and tennis. The cost is $15 per session. These clinics are being taught by local Pickleball enthusiasts Frank Creamer and Julie Woulfe.  Call the Ocean Pines Community Center to register and pay by phone. The Community Center is also open seven days a week for walk-in registration.
 

Safe boating course

The Ocean City Power Squadron will present the all new America’s Boating Course at the Worcester County Library, Ocean Pines Branch, 11107 Cathell Road, Ocean Pines, on

 
Mondays beginning Feb. 24.  Registration is at 6:30 p.m. followed by the first class at 7 p.m. This is an eight hour course, 7-9 p.m. each evening.
 
Anyone born after July 1, 1972 must satisfactorily complete a safe boating class to operate a recreational vessel or personal watercraft in Maryland.  This course covers basic boat handling, navigation, federal and state regulations, rules of the road, aids to navigation, required equipment and much more.
Students successfully completing this course may be eligible for six months free membership in the Ocean City Power Squadron. The course is free. There is a nominal charge for course materials. Call 410-726-1509 or  302-253-0533 for advance registration information. Visit www.ocpowersquadron.org.
